Now that we are both retired, my wife and I have resumed cruising and as part of that we decided to try a few more of the main-stream lines we had not sailed before. We prefer small to medium size ships (about 100,000 GT or less with under 2,000 passengers) and have no interest in megaships. Summit was right on the upper limit of our preferred ship size and passenger capacity. We found a nice balance between attending activities, watching the entertainment, and sitting by the pool and in the Solarium. We had two port days and one sea day during our sailing, and there were plenty of activities scheduled to keep us busy. In addition, there are some great amenities on the ship to take advantage of during your time on board. Concierge Level is another option you can choose when booking a room. A few short months ago, Celebrity Summit was a ship that had seen better days.
For the Kids
We were sailing with only adults and loved the vibe and level of entertainment on the ship. I think if you were sailing with young children and were looking for a very kid-friendly experience you probably would be disappointed. As a group sailing together, we generally look for a variety of different activities that appeal to each of us.

The entire space is perfect for chilling, taking on a slightly different atmosphere after dark. The vibe feels slightly different… in an oddly inexplicable way. All in all, 30 new staterooms were added across several categories. Guests staying in suites can access several exclusive areas, including their sundeck, restaurant, and The Retreat Lounge (which now resides in the formerly occupied by Michael’s Club). When ships go into a refurbishment-centric drydock, the staterooms are almost always included in some fashion. More often than not, it’s simply a matter of changing the general look of the cabins instead of making sweeping changes.

All the way up on Deck 12, the Retreat Sundeck provides suite passengers with their own sunbathing sanctuary, surrounded by unobstructed ocean views. All of these spaces give cruisers staying in Sky Suites and above a feeling of exclusivity and the ability to enjoy suite perks in private spaces outside of their cabin. As adults traveling without kids, the Solarium was especially nice. It includes two hot tubs, a warm heated salt pool with waterfalls and jets, and an AquaSpa Cafe. It’s all included with your cruise price, and while it’s adjacent to the spa, access to it isn’t restricted to spa guests.
While the casino can stay hopping fairly late, and the nightclub can keep people dancing, generally speaking, this isn’t a ship on which you’ll find people rocking out until the wee hours of the morning. That crowd tends to go for ships with more bells and whistles than will be found on Summit, where the average age range probably skews between 40-60. Summit also offers something rarely seen on cruise ships, thanks to Celebrity’s partnership with the American Ballet Theater.

Among the other Solstice-class upgrades were the replacement of Champagne Bar (with Martini Bar), Qsine replaced the Conservatory Lounge, Internet Cafe is now iLounge. While there is plenty for everyone to enjoy on Celebrity Summit, suite passengers will find many more services that cater to them. We found many to be very friendly and engaging and we joined several other couples for entertainment offerings or dinner. The "dress code" in the MDR was not enforced and some wore clothing not in keeping with the Smart Casual or Evening Chic requirements (more like suggestions it appeared). But that is a topic of some disagreement so I won't belabor that observation any further. I would highly recommend this ship for adults traveling solo or with older kids.
Guests have no chance to miss the magnolia garden and the swimming pools (outdoor and indoor). As a special surprise, the vessel has teamed up with Cirque du Soleil for a nice sea experience. As part of this experience, in the evening people onboard are invited to enter into another world of sounds, visual effects, and mystical lights, to taste specialty drinks and hors-d'oeuvres. The gym equipment is at the top level, and there are also 16 treatment rooms. Ship's Aquadome and Riviera include 4 swimming pools, 2 air beds, 6 whirlpools, a bandstand, dance floor, sun shop, and buffet for post-swim snacks.
